Why Omegas?? YOU need some!! (This is a MUST-Read!!)

Check out THIS LINK with 33 benefits of Omega- 3 Fatty Acids. Really interesting stuff.

Seriously, Omegas have INCREDIBLE health benefits and are so important for almost every system in our body. Dr. Oz says they are the single most important thing you can take as a supplement and #1 on his list of essential vitamins.

Really…..take two seconds and go look at that list. Just to name a few….it removes plaque buildup around the heart, lowers triglycerides, decreases risk of breast and prostate cancer, reduces menstrual pain, increases brain cognition (helps with Alzheimer patients), helps lower weight and prevent obesity, helps skin, hair, & nails grow/glow, and the list GOES ON.

They are absolutely phenomenal, and if you don’t take anything else, you NEED to be taking a quality multi and omega. Not only you, but also your parents, grandparents, etc. I cannot encourage you enough to get some!!

Here’s the kicker….Not all Omegas are high quality!! After hearing my nutritionist tell me that a while back, I bought some really yucky tasting Omega 3 fish oil that was in liquid form. To be honest, I quit talking it altogether because I could barely get it down and I was burping a fishy taste all day. Dr. Oz validated what my nutritionist told me during THIS CLIP on one of his shows about Omegas…. Most omegas contain too little of Omega-3s (less than they listed) or are expired/spoiled. Fortunately when I was introduced to Advocare, this clip popped into my mind and further validated what I know about Advocare’s top quality products. I was thankful a bottle of OmegaPlex came in our 24 day challenge, and now both my handsome hubby & I take them every day!!

I take 9 a day….3 with each meal. It’s important to take them with a meal so you body can absorb them better.

It is also EXTREMELY important for women who are pregnant, thinking of becoming pregnant, or nursing, to take a prenatal with DHA. I went for my yearly exam and asked my doctor about taking my OmegaPlex with iron + OmegaPlex combo. She was extremely supportive and said Advocare’s were even better than most prenatal vitamins because they had higher %s of each vitamin and mineral. For example, 2 OmegaPlex capsules contains 450 mg of DHA, whereas the sample prenatal she gave me awhile back only contain 230 mg of DHA.

(No worries…I’m not keepin’ y’all in the dark! That’s JUST a pregnancy suit I wore during a skit at Relay for Life. That junk was HEAVY too!!)

What is DHA??

“Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid. It is found in cold water fatty fish, such as salmon. It is also found in fish oil supplements, along with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Vegetarian sources of DHA come from seaweed.

Your body needs DHA for the proper functioning of your brain as an adult, and for the development of your nervous system and visual abilities during the first 6 months of life. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids are part of a healthy diet that helps lower risk of heart disease.

Our bodies naturally produce small amounts of DHA, but we must get the amounts we need from our diet or supplements. Most people in the Western world do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids in their diet".”

Interestingly enough, DHA is often used to treat ADHD, Lupus, Heart Disease, Depression, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Menstrual Pain, Raynaud Syndrome, and is crucial for infant development.

Also, check out this article that stated one of the causes of Alzheimer’s/Dementia is a lack of Omega 3 fatty acids in the diet. Oxford University completed a 2 year study on brain atrophy and cognition. They implemented a 2 year intervention with Alzheimer’s patients with folic acid, vitamin B-12, and Omegas saw drastically improved cognition within 2 years.

If you’re in the market for a multi or omega, PLEASE remember that NOT all vitamins/supplements are created equal. Unfortunately, many vitamins are very poor quality. I know many people think Advocare is only about weight loss and energy, but it is a complete nutrition and wellness company and they have 5 incredible lines….one being the “Well” line with these two products. If you’re not taking a multi and omega, GET yours today!!!

I can't agree with you more! Chicas out there reading this blog who are thinking about getting preggo... you NEED vitamins and ESPECIALLY Omegas! And NOT the cheapo ones either! You need high quality multis and omegas well before you conceive. Remember that your child will develop by leaps and bounds before you even know that you are pregnant! Your child's spinal cord and brain will be developing and waiting until you see your doctor means that you've waited too long to get the nutrients into your body that your sweet baby needs to develop! NO ONE, NO MATTER how good you eat can get enough supplements into their body to supply both yourself and a growing child with the RIGHT stuff that is needed to create healthy infants... and take it from me... motherhood is hard enough - supply your little ones with what they need before they are born. You wouldn't send them out into the world undressed, or feed your two month old potato chips, so don't bring them into the world without the nutrients they need!!!

Climbing down off soapbox now... Okay... I'm done... I think...:)

Danielle! I couldn't find an email address for you on your blog so I figured I would share this with you in a comment. I'm so exited! I've been reading your blog for about a month now. My dream has always been to be a runner, and I always pin inspirational running quotes with the mindset of "one day I'll be a runner". Well, today I RAN three miles without stopping! It wasn't super fast, and I know it doesn't even compare to your 26.2 miles... But I'm so excited! I can now officially say "I'm a runner"! The running motivations you've posted on your blog really helped me gain the motivation! Thanks so much!
