WHY do we NEED Supplements?? (This is a MUST-READ too!)

I absolutely, 100% believe we NEED nutritional supplementation. I have done a lot of research on this topic, and this is what I’ve learned and why I am such an advocate for vitamins and supplements (along with clean eating and exercise).

REASON # 1: Our food is whack.

It’s no secret that the typical American diet is far from healthy. It’s no surprise that 7 out of 10 adults are overweight or obese, leading to a major rise in various diseases and health issues. There are SO MANY nutritional shortfalls and imbalances, it’s absolutely ridiculous (yes, even if you eat clean and healthy). Our foods are processed to the max, high in fat and sugar contents, full of artificial ingredients, packed with preservatives for longer shelf lives, grown in poor, man-made soil, artificially ripened so we can have fruits during their off season, filled with chemicals and hormones, and the list goes on. We don’t have access to the REAL foods our grandparents’ generation did. For example, our oranges are twice the size, and have half the nutritional value as an orange 40 years ago. Most of our meats are from animals raised on corn-fed and soy diets to fatten them up, as opposed to grass fed. That’s why chickens today are almost double and triple the size they used to be! (Seriously, the last time I bought a whole chicken, it was the size of a toddler.) I try to buy local, grass fed, hormone and antibiotic-free, but let’s be real. That can be expensive and inconvenient, and it just doesn’t always happen. If you haven’t seen Food, Inc., I definitely recommend watching it. Very eye opening.

REASON # 2: Your diet is like a piece of Swiss cheese.

Even if you eat a clean, well-balanced diet, there are still nutritional gaps because foods are NOT made the way they used to be, and most of us aren’t getting a wide enough variety anyway to cover all of our nutritional needs. There is almost NO WAY we can get all of the vitamins, minerals, nutrients, etc. in our diets alone unless we are eating excessive amounts of all-organic, natural, real, whole foods…and like I said, for the majority of us, we don’t have the time/money/resources (or even access) to make that a reality. Think of your diet as a piece of Swiss cheese. You NEED vitamins, minerals and nutrients to supplement and fill in those gaps. When you do that, your body will operate so much more efficiently (the way it’s supposed to); you won’t have the same cravings; your metabolism will speed up; and your body will burn more fat. Your organs and various bodily systems will function better, and you’ll even notice you have more energy, your skin/hair/nails look brighter, and your overall health numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, sugars, heart enzymes, etc.) will be more regulated. With stabilized numbers, you won’t have to depend on antibiotics and medicine to keep your body operating normally.

REASON #3: Recommended daily values are so 1940’s.

Did you know that the current Recommended Daily Values (we see on our food labels) are 70 years old??? The rest of our world is rapidly advancing, but this is one area where we are stuck in the past. 70 years….really? Consider how much our food has changed in the past 70 years! New discoveries and scientific evidence suggests that most of us benefit GREATLY from higher levels than the 100%  because the quality of our food has changed so much. (That’s just ONE of the many reasons I LOVE Advocare products….the majority of them far exceed the 100% in Daily Values). Can you overdo it on vitamins and it be toxic? Absolutely, but if you pair Advocare with a healthy diet, you can be assured it’s safe and effective. They have the TOP science and medical advisory board conducting research, developing products, and backing all of the products.

REASON #4: All the doctors are doing it…

The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans suggested that 72% of cardiologists, 66% of dermatologists, and 91% of orthopedics are now recommending supplements to their patients. If it’s good enough for the professionals, it’s good enough for ME! And you better believe I want to do everything in my power to AVOID these doctors anyway, so I’m 100% about DISEASE PREVENTION!!!  It has taken some work to get my family on board, but I want them around for a long, healthy life, and I am so proud to see them all taking steps to live healthier lifestyles. Since starting to take supplements, I have several family members who have lost weight and inches, have more energy than ever, look and feel better and more confident, are performing better, sleeping better, etc. Not to mention, several of them have had great results with their numbers and the doctors are super impressed with the improvements in their health. Real deal.

And FYI: NO, Not all supplements are the same.

There are DEFINITELY varying degrees of quality concerning vitamins and supplements. I have to admit, I used to just buy the BOGO vitamins at Publix and all kinds of random supplements from Vitamin Shoppe and GNC. I love knowing exactly what I’m putting in my body now, and that these products are designed to work together. They are top quality, made from the highest grade of ingredients, and the ingredients come from natural, active components from plants. They isolate and extract the medicinal parts of plants, and in order to capture the natural compounds, they use an extraction process to eliminate less desirable compounds.

I have some recommendations for ALL ages, groups, goals, health concerns, etc. I have friends with Diabetes, heart conditions, thyroid issues, IBS, kids, pregnancy/nursing, etc. on Advocare products. DISCLAIMER: No, I am not a doctor, and no, I’m not making any medical claims. However, I do have some incredible success stories, which makes me extremely passionate about sharing these products with others.

My mom is a strong advocate for Advocare. She always talks about how great she feels when taking the supplements. I really want to start taking them but I hate how expensive they are. In my mom's words, "you can't afford NOT to take them." Love this post, thanks for the great information.

That's exactly how I feel!! To me, it's an investment in my health and disease prevention! Plus, you have an opportunity to get up to a 40% discount (which is where we are now) so its not really that bad. And since Advocare has such a great referral program, we honestly get most of our products paid for now just by sharing with our friends and family!

Danielle,

Thank you for taking the time to share these incredibly valuable facts. It is obvious that you are passionate about helping others improve their health through their nutrition. My wife and I follow the exact same routine you outlined and our health has completely changed. I lost 45lbs in 3 months following the Advocare routine you suggested and my wife went from a size 10 to a size 4. Thank you for always adding value to so many of us.

Hey Danielle!

What would you suggest from Advocare's line as an overall daily energy booster? I've lost all of my baby weight but it just seems like the past few months I've been lacking the energy I need to make it through the day (without having to take a late afternoon nap!). My goal is to start eating healthier and toning up (and I know that will help a lot!), but would you recommend something to help?

What would you recomemend for an over weight female. I need something to boost energy and help loose weight. I have been reading for the last few months and I think I want to try the Advocare out. I need some help. You could email me at juliandjackson@windstream.net
