Bring it on, 2012!

Goals are important. I believe in setting goals, and when I set them, I work hard to achieve them.  I don’t make crazy resolutions to change or become a whole new person each year, but I do believe in setting a few attainable goals that will help me become a better version of myself.  Here are my big plans for 2012!!

1. Be more like Christ. That sounds very simple, but it’s definitely a challenge in today’s society and with Satan always on the attack. I want to be as Christ- like as possible in the upcoming year. After all, we were created to worship the Lord and to serve Him. That’s it. So in all things, I hope to bring glory to Him. I want to worship Him, serve Him and others, and share his love with others. I hope that the Lord radiates so strong in my life in the upcoming year that others see Christ when they look at me.

2. Be the best wife I can be for Jonathan in 2012. I had that same goal in 2011, but that should always be my goal. I truly believe the Lord created me to be his helpmeet, and it’s my responsibility to love him and honor him in every way possible.

3. Become as healthy as I can possibly be. Our body is a temple (1 Cor 6:19-20), and I’m not going to fall into the temptation of not treating it that way. We make way too many excuses for not taking care of ourselves. I know that we can’t help some things and they’re just a part of God’s sovereign plan, but I also believe many of the illnesses and diseases we encounter today can be prevented with healthy lifestyle choices. Avoiding certain things (smoking, drinking, driving too fast, the sun & tanning beds, etc.) and making smart nutritional and fitness choices (antioxidants help prevent various types of cancer) can help you keep your temple as God intended it to be. Like I said, I know some health issues are inevitable, but many are as a result of our own poor choices. And honestly, it has nothing to do with vanity. I want to take care of myself so I can better serve the Lord (health issues can definitely prevent that) and enjoy life.  Honestly, I will never be 120 lbs or wear a size 2. And I’m okay with that…I just want to be HEALTHY. I also want to set a good example for my loved ones and don’t want to be a burden on other family members in the future.

4. Save, save, save, save, and save some more. Just being completely honest, I have not saved a dime since we moved in our new house. I’m a little embarassed and ashamed to admit that. I could have, but I wasn’t disciplined in that area- at all.  I have always been super tight with my money, and that has helped us get in a pretty good situation financially. I guess I wanted to be able to actually spend some of the money I’ve worked so hard for, so I was not as frugal as I needed to be for the last half of the year. I plan to change that big time this year, putting away a set amount each month into savings.  I don’t want to get caught up in money, but I do want to be smarter this year than I was last year. I see so many young people getting caught up in materialism, the latest and greatest, and the things of this world. Our generation lacks contentment and discipline with finances, and it is really so sad, but SO easy to get caught up in.  I am going to keep this Scripture in mind throughout the year….

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” –1 Timothy 6:6-10

5. Run another marathon and compete in a fitness competition.  Big Jon and I are not planning to have a baby this year (post to come on that decision…), so I want something else to focus my time and energy on. As far as the fitness competition, I just want something to strive towards while trying to get in the best shape of my life. And I want to see that I CAN be disciplined.

6. Work on a special project. It’s a big fat secret, but I’m super excited about it and ready to get the ball going.

You have some great goals!!! I love goal 1 and 2. Like you said, we should always strive to be like Christ and we should always strive to honor our husbands! In fact, I love all of your goals. Your blog is such an encouragement to me on eating healthy and exercising. I struggle so much in this department...especially with exercise, but I am trying to get better! Thanks for always staying positive on here :)

You have an awesome list of goals! Your blog is truly inspiring to me! One of my goals for 2012 is to start running. I've always wanted to be a runner, but never really knew where to start and what I would need {what kind of shoes & things like that} Any tips you have for me would be greatly appreciated! Hope you have an amazing 2012 and you accomplish all the things you want. God bless! :)
