Organic Runner on the loose….

I was a total organic runner this morning. Do you know what that means??  You just RUN.

I had…

no caffeine before my 6:30 am run (I’m trying not to take in too much caffeine- I don’t want to build up a tolerance!);

no ibuprofen (an my joints could totally tell- yikes on the knees & feet!);

no inhaler (I have ‘exercise-induced asthma’, and even though I have it mostly under control, I do use my inhaler when it’s cold);

no i-pod (awesome, I had to hear myself breathing extra heavily);

and no Garmin (the Garmin & i-pod were by accident, not by choice. I accidentally left them at home in my “running drawer.” Bummer.)…

How do people do it??
No, I’m kidding. Sometimes I really do like to just get out there and RUN without my whole getup. (I’m seriously like the little cartoon runner guy with my plethora of running junk!) But on a Monday morning where I didn’t get near enough sleep and I’m exhausted from my wild weekend, I really coulda used some Queen & R Kelly to pump me up!

I made it though, and I was okay. It wasn’t my best run. But it wasn’t my worst. My running partner had somewhere to be at 8, so she was “hustling” to get her run in….I just followed behind her as quickly as possible trying to keep up! I really thought we were hauling tail (like sprinting!) but she said we were averaging about 9:10 miles. ???  Uh, that certainly didn’t match up to how it felt. Definitely one of these kinds of mornings….
Running...
Oh well, ya win some, ya lose some.

(I still haven’t had any caffeine and it’s about to kill me! I’m itching for a cup of coffee. I have a problem. Admitting it is the first step, right?)

Hope you’re having a fabulous MONDAY!!!

P.S. Do you ever run organic??

I always tell my self I will run organically... but then I can never actually do it. I find the music AT LEAST will help motivate me and I can match my run to the fast pace. Then I always like to know how far in how long and one thing turns to another. But I have THOUGHT about it. I am jealous of those who can run without music.

Do you take ibuprofen every time you run? I ask because I have bursitis in my heel that has stopped my running for the time being. It's an inflamation problem, and I've wondered if taking ibuprofen has a preventative rather than after I'm hurting would help. I have real uneasiness about taking a medicine every day, even Advil, but I'm really, really missing running!

i ditch the Garmin 1-2 times a week so that I'll actually run my "easy" runs easy and by feel; and even though I drink coffee every day-I always drink it after my run (due to bathroom stops). and as for the inhaler--I use a control inhaler every day, but my "reliever/rescue" inhaler before cold workouts too. no matter what. because I'm a nurse and despite my stubbornness I know better.

i hope you next run comes easier-but remember, not every run is easy, but going back out is what's important

NO! I can sometimes hear my breathing over my IPod and it annoys me. I just wouldn't be as motivated if I left any of that at home. Good for you!

I actually prefer running san-ipod. I pay attention more to my breathing and it's nice to just be totally unplugged for awhile, relax, and enjoy the surroundings :)

PS- I am the first to admit I am a total caffeine addict. It is not good. I commend you for going a whole day without!

Good job!!! I love running without music and just my surroundings. Kind of cold outside though . . . lol inside on the treadmill for me lately! :-)

Anna Catherine-
I HATE taking medicine every day too, but I do take 2 ibuprofen abut 30 min- and hour before every run (which is 4-5 times a week). I can definitely tell a huge difference when I take it and prefer to take it before as opposed to after. I also take Glucosamine/Chondroitin and soak in Epsom salt baths after long runs.

For just day-to-day running the only thing I wear is a watch on it's chrono setting and probably a pair of sunglasses. If the run is on the longer side then I'll strap on my amphipod belt and carry some water and a chocolate gu. I usually only wear my iPod during a race. Before races I take Excedrin for the pain relief and the caffeine. I try to keep it as low-key as possible so that I never feel like I "have" to have certain items to have a good run.

Way to go lady...I do need to listen to something though while I'm running...

I ran my half marathon this weekend without my iphone app. I felt totally naked and had no clue how I was running! I managed to run decently but just missed my goal :( Oh well!

Never without coffee, not without the ipod unless I am running with someone and then they have to talk to me the whole time.
