What you need to know about METABOLISM!

Metabolism is the combo of all physical and chemical processes taking place in the body (the rate at which the body burns fuel).  Even though we hear it all the time, only a small percentage of the population can actually blame extra weight on a truly poor metabolism.  So, here's what you need to know!
- Unused fuel is stored as FAT.
-Inconsistent eating habits cause wild swings in blood sugar and insulin.
- A sedentary lifestyle can also be to blame for a reduced metabolic rate.
-A pound of muscle burns 50 calories a day, whereas a pound of fat burns approximately 2 calories a day!
-Fat takes up three times the volume of muscle (which explains why a woman with little muscle who weighs 120 lbs- a "skinny" number in most people's minds- does not look as good as a muscular woman weighing 140 pounds).
-Metabolic rate drops 10 calories a year starting at age 35, along with the amount of muscle in a woman. That's why it's important to start establishing healthy habits NOW!

What can I do to rev up my metabolism??
-Water, water, water!! Stay hydrated for optimal body function!
-Weight training. Train major muscles groups at least 3x4 times a week.
-Increased workout intensity.
-Interval training.
-No yo-yo dieting. Lack of food sends your body into fat storage mode.
-Take your vitamins.
-Eat a  good clean diet with lean protein and complex carbs (every meal should include a 4-5 oz portion of lean protein like chicken, turkey, egg whites, pork tenderloin, or white fish).
-Keep meals small (300-400 calorie meals).
-Drink your coffee black! Sugar is basically poison for your body.
-NO soda. Not even diet.
-Eat more high quality foods.
-Eat at least six times a day to keep your metabolism going, your blood sugar stable, and to avoid a crash! Don't go past the point of hunger.
-Eat a high fiber diet. It fills you up and keeps you regular.
-Get enough sleep!
